Competency Seven:

In this reflection I discuss my experience facilitating a group session where we identified ways to help bereaved family and friends. It matches Competency Seven because I engaged in self-reflection, admitting that I felt intimidated at first initiating conversations about death. Additionally, this activity meets my second academic goal because it provides an outline of how to discuss loss with families. I plan to use the tools I learned in this assignment in my future practice when discussing similar topics.

The discussion above explores my personal values and beliefs and how I plan to separate emotional decision making from professional decision making meeting the goal of Competency Seven by engaging in self-reflective child life practice. By completing this assignment I am working towards my third academic goal because I expanded my knowledge on decision making while completing this assignment. Moving forward, I will break up my decision making process into four separate parts, allowing me to grow more confident in my decisions as a Child Life Specialist.
