Competency Six:
The ability to practice within the scope of professional and personal knowledge and skill base.
This discussion post demonstrates my ability to act within the child life scope of practice in utilizing the Child Life Code of Ethics to make informed decisions upholding my commitment to the psychosocial care of my patients. By following the code of ethics I am able to create a safe and therapeutic environment, which is part of my first professional goal. In the future I will continue to make decisions that align with the Child Life Code of Ethics.
In my Ethical Decision Making Model I discuss how I plan to expand my personal knowledge and skills by asking questions and listening to professional criticisms from more experienced colleagues in order to provide the best care to patients and their families. Additionally, the ethical dilemma I wrote about displays my ability to stay within the Child Life scope of practice by advocating for a patient, while also remaining respectful of cultural and religious beliefs. The Graphic for Ethical Decision Making is a visual I created displaying my ethical decision making model which I used in my Ethical Decision Making Model paper. Additionally, I will be able to use this model to help me create a therapeutic environment meeting my first professional goal.
